Last month, Chevrolet gave us a glimpse of the all-new 2016 Camaro,
with images of the new rear end and aluminum hood. This time around,
the automaker shows off some of the side profile and front end.
We have heard that the next-gen Camaro would be more than 200 pounds lighter
than the outgoing model, thanks to heavy use of aluminum. The 2016
Chevrolet Camaro will be more powerful with a new 6.2-liter LT1 V-8
engine derived from the unit found in the C7 Corvette. That engine will
make more power than the 426-hp LS3 V-8 found under the hood of the
current Camaro SS.

Now, the automaker has released a few more clues about the highly
anticipated pony car. Chevrolet says it has put the new Camaro through
350 hours of wind tunnel testing to improve aerodynamics, along with
performance, stability, cooling, and wind noise. Engineers worked to
design a new grille to help improve engine-cooling airflow, setting the
lower grille bars at a 13-degree angle. This not only achieved the
target airflow, but also maintained the original design.

"The importance of aerodynamics increases
exponentially as we increase vehicle performance," said Kirk Bennion,
Exterior Design manager, in a release. "As engine output increases, we
need more engine cooling. As acceleration and top speeds climb, we need
to reduce lift for better high-speed stability. However, we cannot make
any changes at the expense of increasing drag, which can hurt fuel
economy."
Chevrolet will debut the sixth-generation Camaro on Saturday, May 16, during a special event at Belle Isle Park in Detroit.
